Colostomy Care

This comprehensive course is designed to equip disability support workers with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to provide high-quality colostomy care. Participants will gain an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system, the principles of colostomy care, and best practices for supporting individuals with colostomies. The course emphasizes infection control practices, emergency management, and effective communication techniques to ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of individuals receiving colostomy care.

Through a mix of theoretical instruction and hands-on practical training, this one-day course offers a thorough grounding in all aspects of colostomy care. Participants will learn to clean and maintain colostomy stomas, manage colostomy bags, monitor and assess individuals with colostomies, and respond to emergencies. By the end of the course, disability support workers will be fully prepared to provide competent and compassionate care to individuals with colostomies, ensuring their overall well-being and quality of life.
