Epilepsy Awareness for Disability Support Workers
Our Epilepsy program is led by experienced nurses or paramedics who have firsthand experience in supporting individuals with epilepsy. These trusted health professionals bring invaluable insights to the training, ensuring participants understand the importance of the course and are committed to their learning.
Key topics covered in the program include understanding and defining epilepsy, the potential impact of epilepsy and seizures, common types and symptoms of seizures, triggers and conditions that increase seizure risk, medications used to manage seizures, creating a safe environment for epilepsy support, and reporting responsibilities such as handover, recording observations, and incident reporting. Additionally, the program addresses managing unconscious breathing casualties.
This course has been mapped to the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors 2022 - Epilepsy and Seizure Support.
Please note: This course does not equip the DSW to administer emergency seizure medication in line with the care plan. DSW’s needing this skill should complete the course Epilepsy Awareness and Emergency Medication for Disability Support Workers

Entry Requirements
This course is designed for those currently working or about to commence work as a Disability Support Worker
Certificate Renewal Requirements
This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 12 months

Course Cost
$1100 + GST for groups of up to 15
