Complex Wound Care Support

This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals and support workers with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective complex wound management, in alignment with the NDIS Practice Standards: High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors (November 2022). Participants will learn how to implement and follow a comprehensive support plan for complex wound care, developed and overseen by a qualified health practitioner, with a strong emphasis on involving the participant in every step of the process. The course covers the importance of maintaining an up-to-date, clear, and concise support plan that accurately reflects the participant’s needs and preferences, and how to ensure regular health status reviews are conducted by appropriately qualified health practitioners.

The training will also focus on equipping workers with the understanding and skills necessary to effectively support individuals in preventing and managing pressure injuries and wounds. This includes identifying and responding to risks, incidents, and emergencies, as well as ensuring that workers have access to the necessary policies, procedures, supervision, equipment, and consumables required for complex wound management. The course emphasises the importance of clear communication and collaboration, ensuring that the participant’s support plan is shared appropriately with their consent across their support network, other providers, and relevant government agencies.
